IMHSI Global Standard Initiative

Developing a structured verification and compliance framework for Mad Honey, covering batch traceability, testing scope, documentation, and ethical compliance.

Project Overview

The IMHSI Global Standard Initiative is the standards-development program behind the IMHSI Standard, a structured, voluntary framework designed to make Mad Honey verifiable in safety scope, authenticity documentation, and ethical compliance.

Rather than relying on uncheckable “lab tested” claims, the IMHSI Standard defines what must be documented, tested, and reviewed at the batch level, so producers, exporters, and premium retailers can operate with clearer expectations.

Standard scope: testing & reporting • traceability • ethical compliance • documentation discipline

Problem Statement

Mad Honey is traded globally without a unified, category-specific standard for GTX verification, batch traceability, purity screening scope, and ethical compliance documentation.

In the absence of a structured framework, the market faces predictable outcomes:

  • inconsistent verification claims and buyer confusion
  • counterfeit exposure and origin disputes
  • avoidable customs friction due to weak documentation
  • reputational risk for premium channels when standards cannot be demonstrated

A standard is not a marketing badge. It is a definition of proof.

Objectives

  • Define verification scope for GTX profiling at the batch level (what is tested, how it is reported)
  • Establish purity and contamination screening scope aligned with responsible trade expectations
  • Create traceability and batch verification requirements (records + verification codes)
  • Publish ethical compliance requirements for sustainable harvesting and sourcing transparency
  • Align documentation discipline with internationally recognized food safety principles (where applicable)

Methodology

  • Comparative review of relevant international food standards and documentation expectations
  • Laboratory benchmarking to define feasible, repeatable verification approaches
  • Advisory consultations across toxicology, food safety, and compliance disciplines
  • Stakeholder review sessions to stress-test clarity, feasibility, and auditability
  • Draft publication and revision log (versioned updates as evidence evolves)

Partners Involved

  • Compliance and food safety specialists supporting documentation alignment
  • Qualified laboratories advising verification feasibility and reporting structure
  • Independent advisors supporting scope review, neutrality, and risk interpretation

Partner roles and disclosures follow IMHSI independence and conflict-of-interest policies.

Reports

  • Draft IMHSI Standard Framework
Scope, definitions, verification requirements, and ethical compliance criteria. (Publishing Soon)
  • Export Documentation & Compliance Note
Batch records, traceability expectations, and practical documentation guidance. (Publishing Soon)

The IMHSI Seal indicates compliance with IMHSI verification scope and documentation requirements. It does not certify medical outcomes or replace local legal requirements.
