Science & Standards

Technical definitions, verification scope, and documentation requirements for the responsible Mad Honey trade.

The Technical Core of IMHSI

Mad Honey is a complex natural product with batch-to-batch variability. IMHSI develops verification definitions and documentation standards to support safer handling, clearer traceability, and credible compliance, without relying on vague marketing claims.

The IMHSI Standard

The IMHSI Standard
A voluntary, science-informed framework built to define what “verified” means for Mad Honey at the batch level.

1) Verification Scope (GTX)

  • Batch-specific grayanotoxin (GTX) profiling and reporting requirements
  • Risk mapping inputs to support consistent interpretation of variability
  • Clear scope statements (what is verified, what is not)

2) Purity & Authenticity Documentation

  • Minimum documentation requirements for origin and chain-of-custody
  • Screening scope designed to reduce adulteration and counterfeit exposure
  • Basic compositional indicators recorded per batch

3) Contaminant & Quality Screening Scope

  • Defined screening categories (e.g., residues and heavy metals, where applicable)
  • Quality parameters that support trade readiness and transparency
  • Audit-ready reporting structure

The IMHSI Standard does not make medical claims or certify individual outcomes.

Laboratory Testing Protocol

IMHSI verification is designed to be batch-specific, documented, and repeatable.

Honey batches may be assessed using:

  • Chromatography-based GTX analysis (e.g., HPLC)
  • Confirmatory chemical profiling (as required by verification scope)
  • Moisture and basic quality parameters
  • Microbiological indicators where applicable for safety documentation

All results are recorded against a batch ID to support traceability, audit transparency, and consistent reporting.

Laboratory Network

IMHSI works with qualified laboratories capable of producing consistent, reviewable results.

Participation is based on:

  • Demonstrated analytical competency for GTX quantification
  • Documented QA/QC and transparent reporting formats
  • Chain-of-custody handling aligned with batch verification needs
  • Method suitability review for IMHSI verification scope

Laboratory participation does not imply commercial endorsement.

Scientific Library

The IMHSI Standard is designed to support alignment with widely recognized food quality and documentation principles, where applicable.

Reference points may include:

  • Codex Alimentarius (general food standards principles)
  • EU Honey Directive (where relevant to labeling and composition expectations)
  • Risk-based safety documentation practices used in international trade

IMHSI does not replace local laws or import requirements. It strengthens the documentation and verification posture around each batch.

IMHSI Seal = batch verification scope + traceability documentation + ethical compliance review (as defined)
